The short list for the 2008 Polaris Music Prize were announced Monday. Albums by Basia Bulat, Kathleen Edwards, and The Weakerthans are among the 10 finalists selected from the long list of 40 albums announced earlier this summer. Other artists still in the running include Two Hours Traffic, Caribou, Stars, Black Mountain, Plants & Animals, Holy Fuck, and Shad.
The $20,000 prize is awarded annually to the best Canadian album in any genre regardless of sales. A 185-member jury of broadcasters, journalists, bloggers and programmers selected the long list and pared it down to the final 10. The winner will be selected by a 11-member Grand Jury which will convene September 29 in Toronto.
